MI Statewide Autism Resource and Training (START) Building Your Future (BYF) Project Manual

“Like many states, Michigan has experienced a significant increase in the number of individuals identified with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in recent years with more than 16,000 students now receiving special education services under the ASD eligibility. ..Due to the increase in numbers at the secondary level, the Statewide Autism Resources and Training (START) project—a professional development grant funded by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE), Office of Special Education (OSE)— began receiving more requests for training and support to high schools and secondary transition program staff serving students with ASD. As a result of these increasing requests and challenges experienced by secondary transition programs supporting students with ASD, START staff made a commitment to design and implement a set of training and technical assistance programs for educational professionals, community agency partners, and families supporting adolescents and young adults with ASD.”
